About Our Program

Renfrew Park Community Centre Association is proud to offer Licensed Out of School Care service to the community. Our Licensed Out of School Care program offers After School Care for children 5 to 12 years old, from September to June, for children attending Nootka Elementary School.

  • Children are picked up from Nootka Elementary School at 3pm
  • Children will be walked via a walking school bus from Nootka Elementary School to Renfrew Park Community Centre (rooms 011 and 010).
  • Our hours of care are from 3pm to 6pm.

Our Values:

  • Our inclusive Out of School Care program offers a safe and relaxed environment that supports children’s emotional, social, creative, cognitive, and physical growth and development.
  • Our philosophy is to provide a positive, happy, stimulating, supportive, safe, and productive learning environment for children of all developmental levels. Through a wide range of activities, children are exposed to experiences that foster their emotional well-being, healthy physical growth, social skills, and cognitive development.
  • Our Out of School Care Program promotes the inclusion of all people and recognizes the diversity of age, culture, religion, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, and abilities in our community. We understand that the support and guidance provided to one particular child may not work for another, therefore, individual approaches are implemented where possible.

Our program offers a variety of activities, including:

  • Outdoor play and nature walks
  • Free play, exploration, and structured activities
  • Individual and small group activities
  • Active and quiet time

Examples of activities include, but are not limited to, board games, puzzles, dramatic play, and arts and crafts. We also provide a relaxing atmosphere for children to read and complete homework. Through our practice, we aim to create an environment that facilitates learning opportunities, promotes awe and wonder, and embraces children’s and young people’s natural curiosity about the world around them..

Renfrew Park Community Centre Out of School Care is licensed under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act and Child Care Licensing Regulation. Our Out of School Care complies by all rules and requirements set out by the Act and Regulation.

A written notice must be given to the Child Care Manager by the 24th of the month prior to leaving (e.g., program staff must be informed in writing by January 24th if you plan to withdraw for March 1st).

Our Out of School Care program is budgeted on a 10-month school year. Parents/guardians cannot withdraw their child on or after March 24th.

Withdrawals are not permitted during the months of April, May, and June unless discussed with the Child Care Manager.

Payment Program

Fees are to be paid by Visa, MasterCard, or Amex. Monthly fees (September to May) will be charged on the first of the month using the credit card you preauthorized at the time of registration on your Vancouver Recreation account.

The monthly fee reserves your child’s space in the program; therefore, fees must be paid in full even when your child is away due to illness, vacation, or other reasons. Your fees will remain unchanged regardless of the shorter sessions during December (Winter Break) and March (Spring Break).

The deposit, which includes June’s Out of School Care fee and a $30 registration fee, will be processed on the day of registration. The deposit is non-refundable.

To access payment receipts for income tax purposes, you will need to set up an account at www.vanrec.ca

Affordable Child Care Benefit

The Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB)/Subsidy is available through the Ministry of Children and Families for those who qualify. To receive an application, please call 1-888-338-6622 or download the Apply for the Affordable Child Care Benefit Form.

Please inform the Out of School Care program if you are applying for the ACCB, as we will need to provide you with the Child Care Arrangement Form as part of your application.

  • Families receiving ACCB will be responsible for:
    • Paying the non-refundable registration fee
    • Paying a deposit at the time of registration
    • Paying the difference between the approved ACCB and the monthly fee (September to May)
  • Any necessary adjustments will be made accordingly.
